Guest Speaker Melody Stinson, AIA, CCS, CCCA, CSI, LEED AP
Bio:
Melody Stinson, AIA, CCS, CCCA, CSI, LEED AP works for Deltek as a Senior Specifications Writer for MasterSpec, which A/E's use to create project specifications, and specializes in content updates for concrete, masonry, and thermal/moisture protection. A licensed architect with 18 years' experience and previously a Project Architect working on a variety of commercial projects ranging from healthcare to offices and casinos.
Melody moved to Portland, Oregon from Oklahoma City in 2019. She has been a CSI member since 2006, and is a former President of the OKC Chapter and the South Central Region. Now an active member of the Portland Chapter and recent addition to the board, she is serving on the outreach, programs, and JEDI committees. Melody enjoys volunteering, sharing her spec knowledge with others, and encouraging young professionals to take the lead.

Course Description:
Let's put the SPEC in SPECtacular by delving into the tedious but glorious world of spec-writing in order to better understand how to work with specifications and have them work for you. See what a day in the life of a specifier looks like. Review the process for editing a specification to suit a project. Learn how to interact with the specifications from various industry roles and how specifications can open doors to new opportunities!
Learning objectives:
• Understand what specifications are and why they are important
• Learn what specifiers do on a daily basis and see a spec section edited to suit a project
• Find out how you can contribute to better project specifications
• Discuss considerations for a career in spec-writing
Who Should Attend:
Any professional that is involved with design, specification or construction. This includes owners, architects, designers, engineers, project managers, specifiers and most importantly Emerging Professionals.
