While we wait to be able to get together in person, the Portland CSI Industry Forum Committee would like to invite you to a virtual podium discussion about Regionalism and what that means in the Pacific Northwest.

As an industry, we are taking steps to enhance equity and embrace cultural changes. We need to bring that same drive toward a redefinition of Regionalism moving from the physicality of regionalism to a more deeper challenge of what we can be in the Northwest—and Oregon. This group of exceptional leaders are shaping our physical world will discuss what a Redefinition of Regionalism could mean to our local industry.

This will be the kick-off event leading to our in person Industry Forum with Marlon Blackwell (AIA Gold Medalist) and his keynote presentation on “Transcendental Regionalism” that we hope to have later this fall.

PLACE, the innovative design studio Zeljka Carol Kekez co-founded ten years ago, is home to the landscape architects behind some of the most significant regional projects. Inspired by places we love, their portfolio reads like a who’s who of the most enchanting urban design our city has to offer: the Edith Green-Wendell Wyatt Federal Building, Washington Park Master Plan Update, Halprin’s Sequence Restoration, Portland International Airport New Main Terminal, Hayward Field, Prairie Line, Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact and Nike World Headquarters expansion. The studio, which features the requisite rows of computer workstations and a model-building workshop, is also a kind of laboratory for design, arts, and ideas. You’ll find an on-site art gallery displaying paintings and a communal gathering space where the firm hosts regular salons and talks with artists and writers. PLACE has been recognized for design excellence by the American Society of Landscape Architects, World Landscape Architecture and named 2019-2020 Landscape & Urban Design Firm of the Year by the internationally acclaimed Architecture MasterPrize.
